If infants and young children become infected with rotavirus, it can lead to severe gastroenteritis, characterized by acute vomiting, diarrhea, and high fever. These symptoms usually last for 3 to 7 days. Infected children may require hospitalization due to severe dehydration. Therefore, it is recommended that infants receive the oral rotavirus vaccine shortly after birth.
